Population Problem in BangladeshPopulation problem is the main problem of Bangladesh. It is a small country of 1,47,570 square kilometres. But the density of population is about 876 per square kilometre. It is one of the biggest figures in the world. Moreover about two million new babies are born every year.Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries of the world. About 140 million people live in this small land. Many of the evils/problems of the country are due to over population. At present the growth rate of population is about 3% every year.
The population is an asset of a country. But
sometimes it becomes a curse when the country cannot meet the
necessities of the people. Additional people need additional things like
food, clothes, houses, hospitals, education, work etc. But for a poor
country like Bangladesh it is impossible to meet all the demands of the
people.
The effect of over population is very dangerous. The rate of unemployment is increasing every year. Unemployment causes frustration and unrest in the society. As a result the situation of law and order is now going out of control. There is no balance between food production and the growth rate of population. The price of things is rising high by leaps and bounds. So it is going beyond the reach of the poor people to buy their daily necessities. Over population creates much pressure on all sectors of economy. All these have adverse impacts on our life and society. We should come forward to solve this problem. Early marriage should be abolished. Each family should not have more than two children. For this we must remove illiteracy from society. Programmes must be taken to create awareness among the mass people about the adverse impacts of over population. The government alone cannot solve this problem. Educated and conscious people of the society must play an important role to face this problem. Otherwise, our progress and development as a nation will be greatly hampered and we will lag behind in every sphere of life. The Season I like Best Spring is called the king of all seasons. It is the best, the loveliest and the most charming of all seasons. It is my favourite season. Indeed, it is favourite to all. This is the season that has inspired so many poets to write lyrical poems. In the cycle of seasons spring occupies an exalted position. It is rich in colour, beauty, music and fragrance. Though winter in Bangladesh is not so severe as that in western countries, it presents somewhat dull and dreary aspect. In summer the scorching sun, hot days and sweltering nights make life disagreeable. The damp and humidity of the rainy season add greatly to our discomfort. Spring has none of the in conveniences of these seasons. Coming after winter it captivates the hearts of people all at once and when summer follows people bewails its passing away. With the advent of spring, Nature puts on a gay and lovely appearance. Every object of Nature becomes fresh. Trees put forth new leaves. Flowers bloom forth in thousands. They are of all colours. Some of them are sweet-smelling, some have no smell, but all are beautiful. The fine display of colours, they present is especially fascinating. Flowers attract bees and butterflies. Bees hum and fly from flower to flower in search of honey. The colourful wings of the butterflies present no less charming a sight. As soon as spring sets in, a gentle breeze from the south begins to blow. It spreads the sweet smell of flowers and makes the air balmy and fragrant. It passes through the fresh leaves and produces a sweet rustling sound in the air. To this music is added the sweet twitter of the birds. What a great variety of them! Very few claim to know the names of all of them, but we know them all by sight. The wandering notes of the cuckoo go direct to the heart. These charming sights and sounds exercise a great influence on the people of Bangladesh. Love of beauty is an inherent virtue; whatever one is aware of it or not, beautiful things go on doing their work on human mind. The people of Bangladesh have a distinctive nature. Much of this distinction must have come from the tender natural beauties that surround them. It is surely the spring that offers the largest number of charming sights and sounds and makes people forget the bleak winter days. But this season is very elusive in the sense that it comes and goes almost imperceptivity. Its duration is so short that it disappears before we have just begun to realize its charms. It does not oppress our mind with any lingering monotony. This shortness of its duration is, perhaps, one of the reasons why people like it. The Game I Like Most
I
have played various games during the last five years but no game has
provided me so much pleasure as the game of football. I have played
hockey and cricket. I adjudge hockey as a risky game and consider
cricket as a dull game.
Similarly
volleyball and basketball don’t arouse interest in one though these too
are excellent games. I am a boy of short height and do not find it
advantageous to play basketball. Cricket is a costly game and a poor boy
like me cannot afford it.
On
the other hand the game of football is thought to be the best of all by
me. Its rules are ‘easy to understand and does not take too long a
period of time to finish like cricket. Football is neither an expensive
game nor it is unsuitable like cricket. I adjudge the game of football
the best because it gives me sufficient exercise and it develops all the
muscles of mind.
Lawn
Tennis is expensive and I consider badminton as a ladies game. The
struggle of sticks in hockey leads to quarrel among boys. I find great
enthusiasm, pleasure and recreation in the game of football. We don’t
get disheartened. Our regular practice makes us good players.
In
football there is a need of the spirit of co-operation among the
players. If the teams are organized orderly a feeling of brotherhood is
restored. In no other game speed, pluck, tactics and presence of mind
are required, as it is found in the game of football. Further for
playing football we do not need an expert. It is neither complicated
too. What we need for football is a ball and a plain ground.
The
game of football is played between two teams, each team consisting of
eleven players. All the players obey strictly to the whistle of the
referee and the flag of the linesmen. They get themselves accustomed to
strict discipline.
Each
team consists of one goal-keeper, three half-backs, two full backs and
five forwards. The players are allowed to kick the ball with any part of
the body except their hands. The only player that uses his hands and
feet for kicking the ball is the goalkeeper. The joy of the game is
intensified as the ball is netted and when medals and trophies are given
as a result of this. The game excites the spirit of the spectators when
the players of one team put the ball into the goal of the opponents.
The
game has one drawback as accidents take place on account of unfair
pushing and foul play. But playing in this way is not conducive to
sporting like spirit. If it is played in true spirit the accidents are
bound to be reduced. If the instructions of the referee are violated,
the game is called a foul one.
Football
nourishes our mind and body. The game teaches us discipline and
co-operation. It is very popular in India, Holland, Russia and America
as well. It teaches us to face the challenge of life with fortitude,
confidence and courage. The sufficient exercise to our limbs given by
football helps us to grow well.
Wonder of Modern Science
Science has changed the face of the world. It has also revolutionized
the life of man. Man can now live a longer and more comfortable life
because of the progress of science. Man has conquered Nature with the
help of science.
The wonders of Science have contributed to the comforts and pleasures
of man. Man can be comfortable anywhere on the surface of the earth.
Air- conditioning can keep him cool at the Equator. Central heating
makes it possible for him to keep warm at the Poles. He has become
independent of the climate. Labour- saving gadgets have lightened the
burden of house work for the housewife. Science has also added to our
pleasure. We can turn on the radio or TV and entertain ourselves at
home. If we wish for outdoor entertainment we can go and see a film or
do a variety of other things.
Electricity is one of the wonders of Science. Without it we would not
have had electric lights, fans, refrigerators and all the labour-saving
devices in the home. We also have wonderful means of travel. Cars and
buses are very common. Electric trains carry us across the land with
great speed. Jet planes go like a flash across the sky. In no time, we
can be in another continent. Thus speedy travel is possible only on
account of the wonders of science. Electricity also enables us to use
elevators and escalators that save us the trouble of going up and down
flights of stairs.
Science has also provided us with spectacles and contact lenses
artificial limbs, fountain pens, type-writers and mechanical brains or
computers, aren’t all these the wonders of science ?
It is a wonder that science has conquered deadly diseases, made man
healthier and lengthened the span of human life. There is now a cure for
practically every fatal disease that used to take a heavy toll of human
life in the past. Not only this still more wonderful is the fact that
worn out organs like the human heart and kidneys can be replaced by
transplants.
With the help of science, man has even reached the moon. Soon he will
be visiting other planets too. There is no limit to the wonders of
science. Scientists are coming out with new inventions and wonders every
now and then.
The atom bomb and nuclear weapons are also wonders of science. As
these can cause much destruction, it would be better for men to make
constructive use of the wonders of science.
